A Foodies Guide to Santarcangelo, Rimini

Walking the historic streets of Santarcangelo

This beautiful historic city is in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna Region. This region is known as the gastronomic capital of Italy. A vibrant fruitful region that is famously known for Parmigiana Reggiano, Prosciutto Di Parma and Mortadella Bologna. As well as an array of specialty pasta, most notably fresh tagliatelle with ragu sauce and delicate tortellini filled with cheese and served in homemade broth. No matter where you find yourself in this region you are sure to have a great meal. Here are some of my favourite must eats!

L’Osteria Di Santarcangelo is one of my all time favourite restaurants in the world! Anytime I am in Italy I make sure to have at least one meal here. What makes this restaurant so special is it that all of the produce, meat, wine and cheese is grown and produced on their local farm lands in the surrounding areas. The menu changes seasonally and only features traditional recipes from Emilia Romagna. The dining room is beautiful! The design features original stone walls, arches and showcases local artists from the city. They also have a farm house inn that is open to rent to the public and an amazing gift shop where you can purchase all of their gourmet items.

Wine! In this region you must try Lambrusco. This wonderfully slightly sparkling red wine pairs beautifully with meats and cheese and is one of the oldest grape varieties in Italy. It is served chilled in a red wine glass and let me tall ya, it goes down very easy! 

Piadina, this delicate and flaky Italian flatbread is extremely unique to this region. Piadina is served as a sandwich warmed and filled with a variety of vegetables, meats and cheese. My favourite being arugula, prosciutto crudo and stracchino a creamy savoury cheese. 

There is so much to eat and see in this beautiful region. keeping it local and simple will always lead you to the best eats.
